well, and at least to me?  Alaska right now SCREAMS "corrupt".  I don't know if everyone feels that way - but y'know what they say.  Alaska - the best government money can buy. Tongue

Oh yeah. The Alaska GOP is just plain toxic right now. No way I would touch it. I told Randall and my dad that if I'd been in McCain's shoes, I"d have walked away from any government person and tried to find someone in the military or a university that was well respected and tapped him/her.

Lyric is just quoting an interview with her from a week or two ago where she admits she has no idea what the Vice-President does. ::head desk::  Lyric will probably post a link to this.

I have to hope her confusion is because Dick Cheney changed that office so much.

I think that was mentioned in the article the OP posted.  But yeah, someone saying they don't know what the VP does should have sent red flags to anyone considering him/her for the spot.

And Cheney did change the office so much.  From causing debate over which branch of government he is in to being Bush's possible puppet master.

I wonder if the next one would change the office back to what it was before Cheney?

b) there's a corruption investigation going on that's touched on her administration.

I'm one of those who had no idea who she was, but as I've mentioned this corruption investigation to some of my Republican friends, they've been pretty unanimous in saying that she's the one who STARTED the investigation, and the only accusation against her is that she fired a judge for not firing her (apparently corrupt) brother-in-law.

No. It's an ethics investigation that's looking at her involvement in trying to pressure a police chief into firing someone related to her. Let me go find the story about this. She's involved in it, but I can't remember the exact charge that's being leveled.

This is the background:

Palin is currently under legislative investigation herself, accused of firing the state's public safety commissioner for not firing her former brother-in-law.

"A legislative panel has launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire the trooper, Mike Wooten," the AP wrote earlier this month. "Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin's sister. Palin has denied the commissioner's dismissal had anything to do with her former brother-in-law. And she denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten's bosses. Palin said she welcomes the investigation: 'Hold me accountable.'"

Actually, EX-BIL.

And it takes a complete idiot to not understand the reasoning behind the attempted firings.

That doesn't really change the basic feeling of Alaska = corrupt, though.

As we all know - in politics, truth is WAY less relevant than perception!

What I just told Randall:

What do you get when you cross Harriet Miers with Tom DeLay? Sarah Palin.

Lol. Mine too.

And the thing is is that my grandfather is a life-long democrat.  Back when it was down to Obama and Hilary, my mother, sister and I joked that he would stay home on election day.  I'm not sure whether or not he would've voted for McCain if he chose a male, WASP running mate.

Ah.  Makes more sense, then.  I remember them mentioning that in passing, but they were all adamant that it was all part of her weeding out of corruption.  I don't really care - McCain isn't getting my vote, regardless.  Whether she was sincere or not, it's actually nice to hear a politician say, "Hold me accountable."
