(And _The Neverending Story_ is originally written in German, but admittedly that's seen as more of a children's book._)

Oh I just love that.

And a lot of people tend to think of anime as things for kids.  I can name a few anime series that I probably wouldn't show a kid (Blood+ being a prominent example).

I don't think I'd show most of the anime I watch to kids.  Not because it's terribly gory or raunchy or whatever for the most part (although there is that one episode of Outlaw Star...), but because it's just not a kid's cartoon.  It resembles prime-time drama more than children's programming.

And, really, I think the US has this funny thing where they figure if it's animated it must be children's fare, anime or otherwise.  Which...  not so much.

Which was really hard on the author.
Michael Ende was never really acknowledged because 'Momo' and 'Neverending Story' were seen as children's books - which is not correct in my opinion. And it was looked down on it. Which is a mistake.

I guess the 'high' literature circles are so full of themselves with being so intellectual that no one is able to follow, they can't imagine that one can write a book that is easy and fun to read and still is full of wise things.

Fantasy was always my favorite. Books about people with boring stories? No thanks Wink

Let's see: The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, American Dad, Drawn Together...

Those are six American animated shows that aren't suited for kids and there probably a lot more.  And out of all of those, South Park and Family Guy were the ones I wasn't aloud to watch as younger.

Sorry, I over-generalized.   Embarrassed  I should have said "a certain segment of the US population" rather than lumping the whole country in on that together.
