Yeah, if I focus just on the flame, it's a bit bright. And I agree with Tana about the contacts. haha. I might focus just on the flame, but more usually I'll let my eye wander among the flame, the pool of wax at the base of the wick, and the glass behind the flame (I use a glass votive holder). These latter two will have reflections or shadows that move around with the flame, and the melted wax under the flame is generally where I'll see things most. But like I said, I just kind of let my eye wander in that general area.

Thanks, HB, I'll try that.

What do you do your scrying in?  My favorite is a large natural flourite crystal, although I also sometimes use a black mirror I made.  Note that I'm talking about scrying/crystalgazing only, not tarot or pendulums or other such divination methods.

I know this is an old post, was thinking about starting a new post about scrying but instead decided to add something more here.

My favourite is and always has been mirrors, water - (especially when I'm in the bath) or crystals. I can use anything with a reflective surface but find that these three work best.

Scrying is  a technique that I have used for many years, since I was about 13 or before. I'm now 30 something(-; However it was not until recently that I learnt about what I was actually doing. Now I would like to develop this further.

I always start with a a circle and asking the god/goddess to attend, I use to say a prayer or talk to light spirits within my mind, which I suppose feels the same to me. After meditating on my face, my face changes into a different face, sometimes I seem to disappear and a mist remains. Recently I see a women with very long reddish blonde hair or someone with  face paint, especially on the cheek bones and around the eyes. I feel that I am seeing spirits, Does anyone else have a similar experience or has anybody scryed quite naturally from an early age?  Knowing about other peoples experiences of scrying would be very helpful to me.
