I think that Orwellian is a bad word choice, too. But yeah. What you said.

I've read parts of it. Not all of it, but the salient section, yep.

What I've seen, for the most part from the right, is a latching on of the "didn't violate any laws" thing...well, except for the state's pesky ethics law. The problem I've got with this whole thing (and have ever since I read about it a few months ago when Palin's name was first floated as a VP candidate) is that it's one more scandal for the GOP. I always felt that unless there was a complete and total exoneration of Palin, this was going to stick as just one other corrupt GOP politician.

Is the violation of state ethics law sufficient reason not to vote for somebody? or is this just a minor issue of no importance to the person's standing for office? or does the specific way the ethics law is violated matter?

Well, it's sufficient enough for me if I was of a mind to vote for her. Anytime you've got someone who cavalierly breaks an ethics law, I figure there's probably other stuff they've done but just not gotten caught at. What this tells me is the person just doesn't give a shit...that laws don't apply to them. I don't want that sort of person in power.

I'm not a particularly moral person, but there are some things that do bother me. That's one of them.

OK. More possible ethics issues and Joe the Plumber's tax problems.

Although it could be just a wording issue depending on state forms.

The Alaska Personnel Board investigator hired to look into whether Sarah Palin abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner contradicts an earlier report with his findings.

Yes, the board SHE appointed cleared her. What a surprise. The (Republican-controlled!) legislature disagreed and I find their investigation a bit more compelling.

Oh yeah. Cleared by a board that she and previous governors appointed. I'm about as impressed with this as the US military investigating itself over some problem.

This one was a given, methinks. And I really wouldn't put any stock in it.
