For a long time now I have been drawn towards so called "Pagans" and their way of life.  After dabbling whilst I was younger, I have now found a renewed desire to understand more. After quite a lot of research I find that I am not very much drawn to the Wiccan aspect of Paganism but a definite kindship with living by the seasons etc...I also have an appreciation of some of the rules set down by Anton LaVey in the Satanic Bibile (I don't know how many Pagans would look upon this)  but abide the theatrical mumbo jumbo...the basic theory to me though sounds quite sane. Apart from that I don't know where I would fit in the grand scheme of things or which avenue to explore further...can anybody help?

You might have a look around in this folder.  We've had several similar requests for help finding a path recently, and though the other posters' beliefs might be different from yours, you may find the advice they got about how to go about finding the right path for them helpful.

As of now I would call you an Eclectic. I myself am an Eclectic Pagan, and while personally my practice is similar to a lot of Wicca, I utilize components from other religions as well. Basically, if something makes sense to me and doesn't contradict with the other aspects of my beliefs, I use it.

The best help I can offer is to read and study, study and read - anything and everything. You'll find something (or lots of somethings) that speaks to you, and you'll just know. Happy searching!  Smiley

Read, read read! Read the articles on this forum and ones like it. If you've got a good library where you live, ones that have Pagan books, check them out or get some through interlibrary loan. Read and study as much as you can. Pay attention to your intuition and what your gut tells you. Eventually you will find your way. For some people the path is clear cut and they find their way with no problem. For others the path goes off in many directions and takes other ways. Only you can decide which way is right for you. My own beliefs have been Pagan all my life, though I "officially" declared myself to be a Pagan when I was about 21. It wasn't until now, in my late 40s, that I finally discovered the path that I want to take.

The road of discovery is a lot of fun, but also can be a lot of work for those of us who aren't certain the way we want to go. But none of the paths we take should be seen as a waste. Each path has something to teach us and offer us, even when it's not one that we stay with in the end.

If you're interested in the Satanic Bible, it may be worth looking into Satanism further.  AS with any path, there's a variety of opinion, and you may find that some groups of thought are closer to where your inclinations lie.  Unfortunately, I don't know anywhere to direct you to especially.

Thank you all for the kind words/help...I would say that I have an outlook on life and about myself which is very similar to what the satanic bible lays out, but I don't feel comfortable with some major parts of it. I know that half of the pagan path is taking parts from all places to find your own definition etc...but still a lot of people class themselves as something quite specific...is this not a bit contradictary? Sorry again as well for being such a newbie when it comes to this but I sincerley want to learn more!

1) There isn't a single Pagan path, so people who are being specific aren't being contradictory necessarily.  There are many different religions and paths, not all of which involve grabbing what you feel like, and these many paths and religions often share very little in common.

I was interested in Satanism some time ago, so while you look for other sources, I may be able to answer some fairly basic questions.  In the mean time, if you havent looked at it already, I recommend the basic Pagan primer we have on the website.

I agree with others who have said read, study, and learn all you can. Never feel that once on a path you are stuck there. I have gone on and off paths through the years, people change and grow so a path can grow and change with you.

There are many many many directions to go in besides Wicca. Personally, Wicca isn't for me either. Many of us here are on personal paths and have formed our own custom brands of Paganism.

Did you wonder how Pagans would look upon the Satanic Bible because it goes against Harm None?  There are many religions and paths that state - do as ye will (with no "harm none" added)  Wink  The works of Alister Crowley and Scientology for example.
You are just starting out, so feel free to get out there and explore.

Good luck!
