::sigh:: Paypal told me you did.  Who knows?  Apparently not Paypal.

However, from what I've read Paypal seems to cancel them if there is any problem. Payments not going through fast enough (i.e. slow Internet days), etc.

I... see. I've had plenty of money in my checking account (well, at least more than $15). I'll go ahead and re-enable it then and we'll see what happens.

I just got an email on it, so it worked. "Failure" doesn't have to be caused by lack of money from reports I've heard, Internet connectivity problems can cause it.

you mentioned that paypal gets 10-15% of the money.  I'm feeling stupid, cause I can't find it on the website, but if I can have the address, I have the capability to set up the automatic sending of the same amount each month from my account without giving money to paypal.  Can you point me to the place to send a check, or pm me the info.

Or does paypal stick the  money in your bank account for you and make it otherwise much easier for you?

you mentioned that paypal gets 10-15% of the money.

This is over-simplified. It's something like 35 cents plus 3.5% of the total.  For small donations (under $10, say) this is from 7% to almost 50% (for one dollar donations).  For $10 and over, the percentage that goes to Paypal drops quickly.

That's exactly what it does -- and for most donations, the Paypal cost is less than your cost to mail a check plus my cost in gas to cash it. I will PM people my address if they want to make a large "one time" donation by check or money order, but otherwise it more trouble than it is worth on both ends.

I'd like to donate, but I'd rather not do an automatic monthly withdrawal as I'm horrible with money and it will confuse my dh.  So, from what you're saying here, would it be better to just donate a larger one-time amount?  i.e. are they taking more percentage-wise out from a smaller donation?

Larger one time donations have relative low fees as a percentage of the donation. I'm adding some one-time larger "Patron" donation can do not even include an object to recur for those who don't want to even accidentally set up a recurring charge. They should be ready later today.  They'll be in the Donation Subscription area of your profile too.

In that case I will leave it alone.
