I know I'm brand new, but one of the reasons I was drawn to seek out others and leave my usual solitary practice is my seasonal depression. Among other things, I suffer from seasonal depression and have since I was 13. For the past eight months I have been working to really improve my energy and strength and channel it in positive directions in relation to my home and family. I felt strong about my abilities to cast a circle, make offerings, give thanks, meditate and use my energy, along with the energy of the earth, to affect positive change. But since Samhain (the usual time of year my seasonal depression begins) I have felt my energy slowly depleting, as if I'm spiritually treading through quicksand. I am to the point where I feel I don't have enough energy to even make a shrine to the God and Goddess and give thanks. I would appreciate any prayers and positive energy given toward me. I have been put on a medication that I normally take this time of year and will begin it tomorrow, with a prayer to the God and Goddess to help me use the medication to improve my energy and bring me back to the place I was before. The winter months can be very long and trying for me, and I had hoped my improved energy would ward off the old depression that sets in this time of year.

Thank you for reading thus far. I'm sorry I'm so long winded. It's the curse of an English teacher.

Have you tired bright lights? They reportedly have a positive effect on many people who find the winter months depressing? It might be worth talking to your doctor about this as there are certain intensity levels and schedules that are needed for it to be effective.

In any case, you will be in my prayers.

My sister gets S.A.D., and they work for her.

Yes, I had 'sun lights' installed, which mimic the same spectrum of light as the sun, and make sure that I keep the house warm enough so that I can show some skin which is important for the absorption (especially the backs of the knees, apparently). It made a huge difference and I feel that downturn in energy and mood so much less than I did before.

I understand just how rotten SAD is and your are most definitely in my thoughts!
