I have to leave Ecuador in about 2 months because my visa is running out. (For those of you who didn't know, I'm not a "real" Ecuadorian, even though I grew up here.) I need to get a job in another country and move there. I will probably go to Europe, but I have also considered Japan or Taiwan as a possibility. I am particularly interested in Europe because most of my connections for my music are there.

This week, I will be sending out CV to various companies. Of course, I'll be sending my own positive energy off with them and will probably cast an employment spell just for good measure. But anyone who wants to add their good vibes to mine is most welcome! I'm very excited about moving and finally being on my own again, but also scared because I have no idea where I am going.

First off, thanks everyone. I have a related question and hope there is someone on this forum who is knowledgeable about such matters: what are good overseas jobs that don't involve teaching? I am here teaching English, and I'd like to work in another country other than the US. I am applying for English teaching jobs, but I'd like to branch out a little and try something new as well, to broaden my chances of actually getting something. That, and I realized I am really not teacher material and would be happier and more comfortable doing something else.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in music. Probably my main job skill would be writing. I was an opinion columnist/editor for the school newspaper in college. I also have basic computer skills, but no web design stuff or anything fancy. I know Photoshop well enough to have designed the booklets for both my upcoming albums. I'm also fluent in Spanish and currently learning Dutch.

Are you familiar with technical writing at all?  You might be able to find something as a translator for instruction manuals and such.  Possibly a literary translator, although I suspect the market for that service is smaller.

There is also a market for verbal translation, but that's a separate skill.  I know a lady who works for a courthouse in Los Angeles as a Spanish-to-English translator.

You could also see if there are any publications looking for a music critic or music writer.

In either case, you should probably be prepared to send in samples of your work.  If you have a random English-language instruction manual lying around, you could translate it into Spanish as an exercise for your portfolio.
