Saturday night special: Biggest full moon of '09
Moon will be nearly full, rising earlier Friday night and later Sunday night

If skies are clear Saturday, go out at sunset and look for the giant moon rising in the east. It will be the biggest and brightest one of 2009, sure to wow even seasoned observers.

Yep. We're having a lovely winter storm here; no moon for me.   Embarrassed

Couldn't see the moon itself, as it was overcast (and had been snowing quite heavily), but we could tell it was amazingly bright by how brightly things were lit even through the clouds.

Saturday night special: Biggest full moon of '09

These winter astronomical updates always smack of cruelty to us in the Maritime Pacific Northwest.  Having one occur on a cloudless night is tantamount to a miracle.

but you have GREEN!!!!! There's no green here, just white. And more white. And gray, and some brownish-grayish, and almost black.

But mostly white.

Yeah, I hear that one all the time.  Wink  And having lived both in Alaska and here, believe me, it's the gray that will get you first.  I wouldn't care if it were 10 degrees, as long as a little sun fell on my face now and then.  A few years back we had (I kid you not) 40 days without sun.  Keeping in mind that I really do love it here, I must admit it was BRUTAL.

Next week's forecast is calling for partly-cloudy skies by Wednesday.  My poor ol' heart is singing at the prospect...

Whoa. Ja, that would get to me fast. I remember back in '84 we had days and days--weeks, really, at least two, maybe closer to three--with fog. THICK fog. No breaks, at all. It was creepy. And nerve-wracking.

I'm okay with cold (I have to be, I live here LOL); it's going to be in the single-digits for most of the coming week, and well below 0 overnights. I can handle that. I put on more layers, wear extra socks, whatever it takes. But no sun... ::shudder::

I hope for your sake they're correct, and you get some sunlight.

Yep yep. I'm in the same area, and the gray is getting really really old....

I was so hoping for just a little break last night, just for a glimpse Sad
