I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure you can only ignore a board (i.e. folder) or a poster, not an individual post or thread.

That's correct, you can choose to ignore an entire board/folder or all the posts of a specific poster. The software does not have a way to ignore specific threads or specific posts.
