What are your plans for imbolc/candlemas?

Don't really have any plans for either date.  It's quiet around here on a Sunday, and I have no idea if any of the stores will be open after 12 pm or somethign like that. I guess joining the other volunteers for a bit at the pool cuold count.

What are your plans for imbolc/candlemas?

We celebrate on the festival Eve, so for Imbolc that was last night. Themes of cleansing, protection and blessing with fire and water beneath Her Mantle, libations of Bailey's (water of life and cream, what better?) followed by a feast of lamb stew, potato-leek soup, soda bread, whole grain bread, and spinach feta quiche, with a creamed Bailey's cheesecake for dessert.

There's five feet of snow outside, so we tend to follow more Scottish than Irish as far as folklore practices goes, and we look at this not so much as spring, but the hope and promise of it, and life beneath the stones and snow slowly stirring and preparing to awake.

Though today it's above freezing for the first time in weeks - at least the icicles are dripping and flowing!

I tend to mentally compartmentalize the year around the solstices and equinoxes

Me too.

A lot of the winter bleakness starts to lift for me and I feel a lot better after Imbolc.

I'm right there with you. A big factor for me is that by this time of year, if I leave work on time, it's still light out, which is a MAJOR boost to my mental attitude. That and the fact that February is so short, if you've made this far through winter you can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Besides acknowledging this progress, I don't really celebrate. Of all the sabbats, this one and the one at the start of August (Lughnasa to some) get the least attention from me.

Since I have the day off, I'll most likely celebrate on the 2nd.  Imbolc tends to be very low key and quiet for me.  Most likely, the extent of my celebrations will be making suet for the birds and starting some seeds in pots.  If the weather permits, I'll take a long hike through the woods.  As I said, low key.  Smiley

I'm saving the hike for tomorrow.  I ended up doing most of my Imbolc celebrating today... outside... on February 1st... without needing a jacket.  This is the first time I can remember being able to spend several hours outside to celebrate Imbolc. It's also the first time I've ever had a sunburn in February.  It's been a strange day.
