I've always read and followed that before attempting any magickal workings you must first create a Circle to protect you.

Is it true that you must create a Circle and by using what means can you create a Circle?

There's been a recent thread on Circles that you might find helpful:

I'm a bit of a newbie, but I was reading "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cuningham, and he said it wasn't necessary. I think it mostly depends on what religion you are, like whether you're BTW or on your own path.

Mirthril... that is a good book by the way, but it's not a very good one for beginners IMHO (In My Humble Opinion).

The best books for any beginner, are those dealing with mythology, history of magick, herbalism, etc... it all depends on which "aspects of the Craft" you are attracted to. Smiley

I don't really know what I'm interested in, that's one of my problems. I don't have access to much, and can only sneak one or two books into the house at a time, so I wanted a general book. Why don't you think it's good for a beginner?

Well... it really depends upon your opinion... everyone has a different one.

That book is more complex for some beginners... I always tell those that ask me for advice to start out with mythology and reading about the history of Witchcraft before they choose to really dive into it and start studying it.

However, no two seekers are on the same level... so if you feel it was helpful and you didn't get confused by it then, so be it.

I just personally didn't and wouldn't start out another beginner by reading that book... that was actually my first book but I had already done research before that by finding out deity information, occultic practices... and I'm still studying those things. Smiley

It's technically a "whatever floats your boat" kind of thing. Wink

Night Wolf,

Please don't forget to quote what you're replying to.  We really need you to do this so we can all keep track of how the conversation's going.  I know this has been mentioned to you before, so if this is something you need some help on, please don't hesitate to ask.  If you prefer, you can send me a PM or an e-mail, by clicking on the little envelope or speech bubble to the left of this post.

Thanks.

It's not the first book I picked out, but the third or fourth. I still consider myself a total newbie, though.

Well, you'll learn... I'm still learning.

It's like the Circle of Life... it keeps going until the Fates decide it's time to cut the silver thread. Smiley
