I have been glued to the TV most of today.   HISTORY !

The pictures of the National Mall were  absolutely impressive. All "Our" people... so much hope for the future...

There was one tv shot, just before the swearing in ceremony, inside the capitol,  a group of people walking, then a space with Barak walking...*alone*... then another group of people.  I cannot think that is the picture i will hold in my mind the most... One man with the weight of the world on his shoulders.  Alone.

    May he be blessed.      Mea.

Thank all the Gods. After eight long years our national nightmare is over. Bush II will probably go down in history as one of the five worst US Presidents. Our new President inherits a country with a lot of problems and he will not be able to snap his fingers and fix them all quickly, but at least things should be on the road to a recovery -- both economically and constitutionally.

Which reminds me, CNN has a transcript of the speech for those like you and me who missed it live:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/20/obama.politics/index.html

And I think you can get the video here:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/20/videos.obama/index.html
Click on the clip labelled "We are ready to lead" (it's 19 minutes long or so).

This really is an incredible day.  But I have to say that I felt sorry for President Obama when the Chief Justice flubbed the part of the oath that's supposed to read "That I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States."  Instead Roberts said something to the effect of "That I will execute the office of President to the United States, faithfully."  The President paused and nodded at Roberts as the Chief Justice attempted to repeat the oath correctly.  That must have been a nerve wracking moment for everyone involved....

Nerve wracking yes, that was the moment I realized racism would no longer be able to rally and gain back what it once was. For me the world really changed at that moment.  It was the past letting go.

I would not say this before but I did not expect Obama to be allowed to say the words that would make him President of The United States of America.

Finally! I hope by the time I get back to the US, the country will have taken the first real steps toward getting back on its feet.

I was at work and unable to watch streaming video or anything, but I did manage to keep up with the main page at CNN.com so I knew when who was being sworn in by whom. And bless them, almost as soon as the speech had ended, they put a transcript up so I read it during my lunch break.

And I cried. OH did I cry, great honking tears of joy. Not just happiness. JOY.

I agree. There seems to be a number of people I talk to that expect him to work miracles, which worries me. Things are going to take time. But I have faith that he will turn things around in the right direction.

I voted Bob Barr. I don't trust either of the two main parties.
For me it's "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..."
Meh.

I spent the day doing laundry and working on an Irish Chemise I am sewing.
I did log on to the computer and saw the White House site was changed and they are already saying they will push for a permanent AWB. ("Assault Weapons" Ban)
Glad I already have mine.

At least you've got one.  Thanks to a recent change in state law, it would be very difficult for me to get any kind of firearm legally Cheesy
