I wonder how would you go about the sphere method in an apartment room above the ground? Can you extend the bottom of your circle to the ground if there are other people living below? The same goes if there are people living above you?  Huh

You can make the container a squashed sphere if necessary.  I think the most important features are that the container is closed, and that energy can easily flow within it.  So you could make the container more cube-shaped, but you wouldn't want sharp corners because the energy might get corraled and stuck there.
