Greetings all!

I was just looking at Pandora and realizing how many 'Lesser' artists I have discovered used this site to provide my self some music.

Imogen Heap - Fantastic artist, lesser known in the states is by far my favorite thus far. She is a very unique person, has her own style and produces all of her own music her self.

Do you have any you like who some would consider 'Lesser' known artists and feel we need to share the love of the music?

I'm assuming that by "Lesser" you mean "Not Well Known."

I hate to say it, but despite the minor fame he got from having two songs on a fun cartoon, Voltaire is my main one.  He certainly deserves to be more well known.

Voltaire? Not heard of him. Type of music or what not does he play?

A Fine Frenzy.  The lead singer, Alison Sudol, has a haunting voice.  I know she's not everyone's cup of tea, but I like her music.  I particularly like "You Picked Me" and "Hope for the Hopeless".

Two folks from the NYC alternative scene (both showcased in the past by Justin Bond, more famous as Kiki in the campy lounge act Kiki and Herb) have captured my loyalty: One is a young guy who goes by the name of Novice Theory, who sings and plays the accordion. It sounds ridiculous, until you hear his plaintive, clear-as-a-bell voice and see the intensity of his performance; it's mesmerizing. He's on YouTube:

The other is Our Lady J, a transgendered singer/songwriter whom I've seen perform live a few times, and it's always a great show. She's does this very witty song called "Pink Prada Purse" that's sort of a play on "The Girl from Ipanema"; here's a link to it on YouTube, though I'm not sure if the lyrics are clear enough (and it's all about the lyrics):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmQ40viKtvc

I don't think either has recorded anything yet.

I love Voltaire.  It's sorta-gothy, though I guess not really.  sorta.

http://www.ebilgames.com/games/Deady/play.asp the game has him singing in the background, if you want a sample.

It's hard to describe, sort of like folkish goth/dark cabaret.  His voice is rather distinct and imo hauntingly beautiful.

Here's his Wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltaire_(band)

And here are a few of his better songs:

(featured on The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i7tqWMbUFU&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFkOYRl5hTM&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ozduFHP8oI&feature=related

eta: of course these are just a drop in the bucket.  All of his songs are good Cheesy

Or one can look him up on Amazon's MP3 store and get a host of 30-second song samples.  Wink

Huh.  Her voice sounds really familiar.  Going from the information I can find about her, it doesn't look like I've probably heard her specifically sing before, but she reminds me of...  someone.  This is going to drive me nuts until I think of who it is.

She reminds me a bit of early Sarah McLaughlin.

She also played a musician named Nova Kent on an episode of CSI-NY.  Maybe that's where you heard her.   Wink

My favorite little known artist is Beth Patterson, whose music combines folk, celtic, and cajun music. I happened to catch her live in New Orleans a few years ago and enjoyed the show enough to immediately buy one of her CD's.
