A new generation of clocks are so accurate that synchronizing different clocks in different locations around the world may be hard because of the effects of time dilation of General Relativity: a clock will tick faster by 1 second in 1018 for every centimeter it is raised in Earth's gravitational field.  This may not seem like much, but these clocks are accurate enough that changes in air pressure could affect their position in Earth's gravity well by a few centimeters compared to another clock elsewhere on the planet will be probably noticeable temporal differences.
