Report!  Very good.  Pretty dense, pretty chocolatey, although not overwhelmingly so.  It might have taken me longer than five minutes to make, but not by much.  Possible I cooked it too long; my microwave is higher-power than the recipe lists, and I was trying to guess at the appropriate time.  It was difficult to mix the egg in, but everything came together once the other liquids went in.  Definitely keeping this one around...  and probably trying the apple variation at some point too.  Cheesy

Mine was a bit over cooked too.  Maybe I could have done 2:30 instead.

5 Minute Apple Cake

That sounds pretty good, Kasmira.  Did you ever try it with walnuts added?

I'd already knocked it down to that; I'm thinking I should've gone maybe 2:15.

I was kinda wondering about the cooking time vs. wattage myself.  On the heels of that thought was "What if I set it for half the time and slip a fun size dark chocolate Hershey's bar in the middle and then finish cooking it...?"

Do you guys think it would be worth calculating the percentage of wattage your microwave has vs. the 1000 watts recommended and then modifying the cooking time proportionately?  I never use microwaves myself so I really have no idea how much I'd have to modify the cooking time.

Meh.  I think trial and error probably works just as well.  And makes more cake!  Grin

For reference:  My microwave is 1300 watts, and at 2:30 was just a wee bit tough at the bottom.  I suspect 2:15 would be great for 1300 watts.

One should never mix math and chocolate.

The funny thing is, 2:15 is about right based on my math Smiley

1000 watts divided by 1300 watts is, rounded off, 77%.  So 77% of 180 seconds, or three minutes, is 139 seconds or 2:19.  So, 2:15 sounds like a good guess to me, Star.

Now, all we need is the lab test to prove the hypothesis.  Since this requires more cake to be made it sounds like a win/win proposition.

Ok, I'm going to take the geek hat off now....

Here's a question:  how do you know how many watts you have?

I think it's listed in the owners manual and may be listed on the back and/or bottom of the device.  Most electric devices have their wattage listed somewhere on them.

Mine says it on the front, under the time/clock display.

I couldn't find mine on the front, sides, or inside.  Not about to try to flip it over.  Oh well, I'll just have to do trial and error.   Grin

There's always the option of Googling the make and model to see if you can find the owners manual or other such info online.  This is, of course, assuming you have the model name/number.

We've been making this for a few months!  It's so great and is perfect when you're craving chocolate at 10:00 but don't not enough to go to the store!  We sometimes add mini marshmallows too!
