Does anyone here practice weather magick?  What exactly does it involve?  Is there any good info--books, sites?

Just for clarification, do you mean magic that is meant to affect the weather or magic that makes use of the weather as a source of energy?

Either.  I'm interested in all aspects.

I've always avoided weather magic as it's too easy to mess things up. Weather systems are usually huge and every a minor change here can have unexpected side effects there. Divert rain from your pinic and you may flood somewhere else or that rain may have been needed by local farmers, etc.

Gotcha.  I'm on the same page as Randall when it comes to magic that affects the weather.  I'll occassionally use the natural shifts in weather (particularly storms) to help fuel other workings, but that's about it.

How do you do that?  I never thought about the fact that influncing the weather could cause problems elsewhere, but it makes sense when you think about it.  But I am more curious on how you would use the weather to fuel your workings. That sounds very interesting.

Basically, I use weather shifts as a source of energy, just as I would the ground below.  Brewing storms are great for workings involving change and transformation.

Oh yes, a thunderstorm rolling towards you, all that sheer power in the air - makes me go all excited and energized. (Wow now I have to think of the bunny *lol*)

But I'm a little bit reluctant to intentionally pull the energy together and channel it through me.
Might sound stupid now (feels stupid for sure to say it), but I'm a bit afraid to get struck by lightning in that case Embarrassed
So I'm using only the surplus that is flowing around anyway.

I suddenly feel very guilty. Though to be my attempts at weather magic have been minor to co-incidental at best. of course its a little egotistical to belive I could alter world weather patterns, even accidentaly. Mother earth is a little more robust than that.

From what I remember of meteorology, weather systems are an example of the type of "chaotic system" where one change here can sometimes cause expected changes over there. For example, the effects global warming aren't really what many people thing they will be -- warmer weather -- they are also more "chaotic" weather: more storms, more variation in weather patterns, etc.

That is true. Also just because there is global warming doesn't mean every place will actually get warmer. Warmer weather and water for that matter can change the overall climatological pattern of an area completely. Areas that used to get rain may become deserts as the years progress, while others may end up as swamps.

As for weather magic, it isn't something that I do... it just has too many consequences and too many unknowns. I wouldn't want my want for rain to cause someone elses drought. JMHO

I've yet to find a good website, but I do believe that "Earth Magic" by Scott Cunningham might have some weather spells in it. I know there's a Cunningham book that does, and I know it's one I own, because I was looking online for a weather spell once and every website had the same unattributed spell -- and it turned out to be in one of my books.

I've never tried my hand at weather working, but if I were to do so, I don't think it would go very far beyond simple prayer to bring rains or dry out the floods or whatever we needed. I've often found that being fairly vague in what you're asking for is better than being too specific... so rather than saying "bring this rain front here", I'd ask for nourishing rains in the next few weeks to save the crops from drought, and let the universe decide how best to answer me.

That's exactly how I work with the weather. Living where I do, there is often wind and rain. This gives me excellent opportunity to perform cleansing and transformation magic. Since I do a lot of healing magic (I'm part of a healing network), I think the wind and rain are a major boon to the people who have requested help.

I also agree that standing in the rain can be a great cleansing rite. I enjoy doing it here in TX because at least in the summer the rain feels good and doesn't freeze you to the core. I also like how after a rain storm everything feels clean, its a way for nature to cleanse itself of unwanted energy and dirt.

Absolutely! In fact, I think I'm going to plan something like that for this weekend. Smiley
