From what I remember of meteorology, weather systems are an example of the type of "chaotic system" where one change here can sometimes cause expected changes over there. For example, the effects global warming aren't really what many people thing they will be -- warmer weather -- they are also more "chaotic" weather: more storms, more variation in weather patterns, etc.

That would be known as the butterfly effect.

During the course of my college studies I recently started cover energy use (I study engineering).
Not quite on topic but I though those following this thread might find this interesting.

Apparently current western civilisation is having a masive effect on weather patterns even if we remove the obvious 'global warming' issue. our cities redirect wind and the powerstations (all kinds) we use vent such huge amounts of excess heat that they have huge effects on local, and eventually global, weather patterns.

We now return you to your (ir)regulaly scheduled thread.

I've always avoided weather magic as it's too easy to mess things up. Weather systems are usually huge and every a minor change here can have unexpected side effects there. Divert rain from your pinic and you may flood somewhere else or that rain may have been needed by local farmers, etc.

Given how much I liked the 75-early 80s X-men, it's quite possible that Storm's opinions influenced mine. Smiley

That was the run that got me reading comics again, in my high school years. Classic stuff.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread.

I enjoy doing it here in TX because at least in the summer the rain feels good and doesn't freeze you to the core. I also like how after a rain storm everything feels clean, its a way for nature to cleanse itself of unwanted energy and dirt.

Oh how I miss the rain here in Texas. We've been in such a severe drought that off-duty police officers are patrolling streets, looking for people illegally watering their lawns and gardens, and fining them. I can see the balance that needs to be kept on weather magic, but its so hard not be tempted.  Undecided

It's dry here in Waco too -- but not yet that bad.

I live near Amarillo. I used to have a friend who wanted to make it rain where she worked so she didn't have to go in. This really pissed me off, because I know about how one minor change in the weather patterns can impact another. I watched her working on it a few times. Looked like she was trying to impress someone moving her hands around. I could feel rain drops on my arms when she did that.
You do NOT change the weather for personal gain. That's my view on that. It's a living moving thing that shouldn't be bound by anyone's will.

On a plus side we have been having a lot of rain the past couple of years lol. Cotton crops have been pretty good etc., but yeah now is the beginning of a drought.

Does anyone here practice weather magick?  What exactly does it involve?  Is there any good info--books, sites?

I just bought Cassandra Easons Complete Book of Natural Magick (I hate that damn "K"!) and it has a Weather Magic section in it - as of yet I havent read that bit but I do love the parts I have read and I'm certainly a Cassandra Eason fan. Might be worth picking up a copy.

Hmm... I'm sure I have it in PDF format somewhere... its on http://www.scribd.com/ Smiley
