Rhiannon, who is my main Goddess, sought me out, many years ago. I'd always been horse craxy but my family could not afford one. So I read everything I could about horses. I would also have very vivid dreams about them, where I could feel them as I petted them and smelled them as well. When the Fleetwood Mac song first came out in the late 70s I instinctively knew that She was a Goddess and not simply a "Welsh witch" as Stevie Nicks described Her. So I began to do research on Rhiannon until I finally found what I was looking for. And then the Goddess Herself appeared to me in a dream and I knew then that I had come home. I've now followed Rhiannon for more than 30 years.

I initially chose Cernunnos as my main God. I wasn't raised as a monotheist and I wasn't a female who had problems with the "patriarchy" (I was still rather young when the women's movement came along). Cernunnos fit because at the time I was Wiccan in my views but I wanted a named God rather than just the "Horned God" (though "Cernunnos" does mean "the horned one," according some research I've done). And since some of my ancestry is Gaulish He was a good choice for me (some of my ancestry is also Welsh, so I know that it was Rhiannon who called to me and not Epona).

Another Goddess that I chose is Brighid. Though I'm not a poet I am a writer and I called upon Her for inspiration with my work.

For those of you that are theists, I'm wondering about your experiences with gods/goddesses.

I'd have to say that Epona's pretty much always been there.  There, but not in a manner in which I was able to name.  Once I realized what was happening, a process that took years, I started doing some research to get a better idea of Who I was was actually speaking with.  I guess you could say that Her presence in my life, once I was conscious of it, caused me to actively seek Her out.  To be honest I think it's a kind of spiritual heritage relationship - a relationship begun in another life and simply continuing on here.  I may not fully understand Her or our relationship but I love Her.  I think we both need that connection.  She's always been there for me and always answered when I needed Her.  I may get lost every so often but when I can see my way clear She's right there.  She knows me inside and out and still claims me as Hers.  That is true friendship and the reason I have no desire to seek out Anyone else.

"Then I will tell you a great secret, Captain. Perhaps the greatest of all time. The molecules of your body are the same molecules that make up this station, and the nebula outside, that burn inside the stars themselves. We are starstuff. We are the universe made manifest, trying to figure itself out. As we have both learned, sometimes the universe requires a change of perspective. " ~ Delenn, Babylon 5
