Thanks for all the responses!  I took my hunk of amethyst to work this morning and it works as a wonderful paperweight.  I just love the feel of this particular stone.  I plan to go though some items that I have used in ritual before and bring them in on Thursday (I am off tomorrow, weeeee).

The only thing I have to add is that you might want to lock your stones up in your desk when you leave the office to discourage sticky fingers.
