Inner Child

The child wanders, lost in hope
Searching for something not understood
In the wood silver wolves gallop,
Running silent beside the road.

The child cries in a dark wood.
None know the reason that he grieves
Sharp-eyed eagles fly over the road
But they cannot pierce the trees.

The child hides his face in disgrace.
He knows not his own worth,
Though his heart burns with inner flame
Hotter even then his mother’s hearth.

The child dreams in the night.
His shut eyes see a woman’s face.
The eagles, startled, wake in flight,
Away to their caves the wolves race.

The man awakens in surprise,
The buzzing clock above his head,
Daylight shining in his eyes,
But he returns to his soft bed.

I really like this one.

Thank you.  Funnily enough, this is one of if not the hardest poem I've ever written.  Not because I don't like it, but because I wrote it for a class and all I managed to actually inspire myself with was the first line.  The rest was sheer determination.
