Has anyone read this?

It was recently published in translation, and I've found it an invaluable resource.  I was looking at the other thread about Magic and Hubris and I thought about posting this there, but it seemed to warrant a new topic given the discussion going on in that thread.

I am not a Hellenist (I am a Magician, not trying to hide anything here), but I like to work with Greek Gods and Magic.  the solid western-archetypal nature of the Greek gods makes them very solid for ritual work.  In exploring briefly the Greek MAgical Papyrii I have discovered a better understanding of Greek Gods and Titans, their conceptualization, and how ancient Greeks may have worked with them, as well as insight into the role "magic" charms and spellcraft may have played in everyday Hellenic life.

What struck me about the Greek Magical Papyrii is its insight into Hellenic culture and low Magick by relating many common spells and rituals.  Soem of these involved calling upon the gods, others simply involve potions, talismans, other sorts of rituals, and others even involve the recitation of specific lines of Homeric poetry as bits of magic.  These are actual "spells" recovered from historical sources and relate directly to organic Hellenic Culture.  I did not get the impression from reading these that magic was considered offensive to the gods or was not even common place.  For example, Homer's verses being revered as divinely inspired and therefore magically potent does not seem to be a blasphemous view (in fact my historical research would seem to show the opposite).

I was just wondering if anyone here had read this book, and how you have found it useful, or how it has fit into your views on Hellenic religion.

I know quite a few people use the GMP on my Hellenic-Kemetic lists. But I think they used translations that are not from this book? Who was the author/translator/whathaveyou?

Ah yes, I should have said:  that Editor is Hans Dieter Betz, and its published by University of Chicago Press.
