I'm not sure this is the right section...

There's been a good amount of talk about making or using prayer beads (or at least I'm noticing it a lot Wink), so I was wondering: do you use prayer beads? Do you want to? Did you make your own? If so, what arrangement did you use and why? Do you have a set group of prayers you use with the beads, or are they more of a prayer focus-item? (Does that even make sense?)

So, I finally made my own beads! They're large.

The first set came out way too big to wear on a daily basis like I wanted, so those are for ritual purposes.

The second set came out much smaller, so I wear them every day now.

I use specific prayers with them- one loop has beads for the North wind, Land, East wind, Sea, South wind, Sky, West wind, and then the triskele for Na nDeithe Lasmuigh; the middle long bit is a bead for each of Na NDeithe Mor; the second loop is a spiral for Na na-nDeithe, and then beads for a triad, Stone, triad, Well, triad, Flame, triad.

Absolutely lovely!  Nice work!  Did it take you a while to figure out the prayers for them?

Thank you! And yes, the prayers took awhile. They're still works-in-progress.

They're beautiful!  What kind of beads did you use?  Are the large black beads lava?

Thanks! The large black beads are African Lava, the green are African Jasper, the small white-ish/yellowish are African Opal, the other small white ones are bone, and the light brownish small ones are glass seed beads.

Late to the party as usual.

Up until we moved last year I was making Witch's Ladders regularly.

I put up this page for someone who had asked for examples.

Some other examples:

I found the act of making them very satisfying and meditative although I have to admit to not using the finished product as much as a result.

They're beautiful.  I especially liked the one with the acorn and oak leaf charm.

I love them all.  My favorite is the Green Loop w/ Triquetra.  How did you learn to do such nice bead work?

I wish I had a facinating story, but for the most part I just sat down and strung pretty beads together. Smiley

I do try to make the materials and symbolism meaningful and the whole process is sort of an unofficial act of devotion to my gods.

I based the general design on the nine knot charm, folk lore, and information from Roy Bowers and Andrew Chumbley. I mushed it all together and came up with my own interpretation.

Thank you Smiley

I've been looking for a source for acorn and oak leaf charms like that for ages!  (I'm a beader too.)

I don't know if it's just me or not but when I clicked on the above link (twice in fact, just to be sure), I got the "this album is private, please login in to view" message from Photobucket... Undecided
