It's been a long time since we did the Belief-O-Matic on The Cauldron, so it is probably time to do it again. Take the Belief-O-Matic at

http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx

and report you results in this thread. Remember to pick the answer that BEST fits your beliefs for each question -- even if there is no answer that perfectly fits. Remember that answers with OR in them treat all alternatives equally. Also remember to rank the importance of each question to your beliefs (High, Medium, or Low). The results are always interesting, although not always perfectly accurate.

The result will be a list with the faith group represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by that faith, or vice versa. !00% really just seems to mean that it is the faith group that most closely matches your answers. Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking.

Paste your result list into this thread. Feel free to comment on it too.

It's been a long time since we did the Belief-O-Matic on The Cauldron, so it is probably time to do it again.

1.    Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2.    Neo-Pagan (96%)
3.    Liberal Quakers (86%)
4.    Reform Judaism (83%)
5.    Secular Humanism (83%)
6.    New Age (75%)
7.    Mahayana Buddhism (73%)
8.    Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (71%)
9.    Jainism (69%)
10.    Theravada Buddhism (68%)
11.    Sikhism (66%)
12.    Baha'i Faith (62%)
13.    Hinduism (57%)
14.    Nontheist (56%)
15.    Scientology (56%)
16.    New Thought (54%)
17.    Taoism (52%)
18.    Orthodox Judaism (45%)
19.    Islam (44%)
20.    Orthodox Quaker (40%)
21.    Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (34%)
22.    Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (23%)
23.    Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (23%)
24.    Eastern Orthodox (21%)
25.    Roman Catholic (21%)
26.    Seventh Day Adventist (15%)
27.    Jehovah's Witness (4%)

The results are not bad. As I expected, more liberal religions/religion groups do are a much closer match for my beliefs than more conservative ones.

LOL. At 4%, I suspect I'd make as bad a JW as you would.

I wonder if telling them that belief-o-matic thinks I'd make a bad one would make them go away?

Laughing.  My.  Butt.  Off.  I think this is the first time this particular result has actually come out on top for me.  Usually UU wins out, as I recall.  It's been a while, though; my memory may be faulty.

1.  Neo-Pagan (100%)
2.  Unitarian Universalism (96%)
3.  Reform Judaism (91%)
4.  Secular Humanism (84%)
5.  Liberal Quakers (82%)
6.  Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (75%)
7.  Baha'i Faith (72%)
8.  Sikhism (71%)
9.  Mahayana Buddhism (67%)
10.  Nontheist (67%)
11.  New Age (64%)
12.  Orthodox Judaism (63%)
13.  Jainism (63%)
14.  Theravada Buddhism (62%)
15.  Scientology (58%)
16.  Islam (57%)
17.  Hinduism (56%)
18.  Taoism (53%)
19.  New Thought (52%)
20.  Orthodox Quaker (45%)
21.  Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (41%)
22.  Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (40%)
23.  Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (38%)
24.  Eastern Orthodox (32%)
25.  Roman Catholic (32%)
26.  Seventh Day Adventist (29%)
27.  Jehovah's Witness (12%)

I always have a few issues with the questions, but it's not too bad as far as it goes.  Although I really think Scientology ought to be a lot lower, and Catholicism maybe a bit higher, at least.  (It's not the best fit for beliefs, strictly speaking, but...  I just find it odd that it got shoved down quite that low.)

How did I manage to wind up with a whole 12% for JW?  I must be slipping...

25.    Eastern Orthodox (3%)
26.    Roman Catholic (3%)
27.    Jehovah's Witness (0%)

It's always hard for me to take this test because they don't break any of the pagan faiths down, so most of my beliefs aren't posted, and I have to pick something "close". If memory serves, they've added a few questions since I took it last.

I think this is more or less the same as last time I took this test. I think i'm more of a Jew now than I was before, but I can't be sure, since I don't know where my last results are. I love that I'm 42% Quaker, though.
