It's been a long time since we did the Belief-O-Matic on The Cauldron, so it is probably time to do it again. Take the Belief-O-Matic at

http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx

and report you results in this thread. Remember to pick the answer that BEST fits your beliefs for each question -- even if there is no answer that perfectly fits. Remember that answers with OR in them treat all alternatives equally. Also remember to rank the importance of each question to your beliefs (High, Medium, or Low). The results are always interesting, although not always perfectly accurate.

The result will be a list with the faith group represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by that faith, or vice versa. !00% really just seems to mean that it is the faith group that most closely matches your answers. Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking.

Paste your result list into this thread. Feel free to comment on it too.

1.    Neo-Pagan (100%)
2.    Unitarian Universalism (92%)
3.    Mahayana Buddhism (86%)
4.    New Age (83%)
5.    Liberal Quakers (77%)
6.    Jainism (75%)
7.    Theravada Buddhism (70%)
8.    Reform Judaism (69%)
9.    Sikhism (68%)
10.    Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (66%)
11.    Baha'i Faith (60%)
12.    Hinduism (58%)
13.    Secular Humanism (53%)
14.    Taoism (51%)
15.    Orthodox Judaism (50%)
16.    New Thought (46%)
17.    Orthodox Quaker (43%)
18.    Islam (39%)
19.    Scientology (38%)
20.    Nontheist (33%)
21.    Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (26%)
22.    Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (23%)
23.    Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (21%)
24.    Eastern Orthodox (18%)
25.    Roman Catholic (18%)
26.    Seventh Day Adventist (17%)
27.    Jehovah's Witness (12%)

Interesting!! I didn't realize I was so secretly Buddhist...69% for Reformed Judaism makes sense, though, as my first religion was somewhere in between Reformed and Conservative Judaism and I still hold onto many of the ethnic customs/family practices...anyway, I think I'm happy with these results! haha Smiley

http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx

My top five are:

1.    Neo-Pagan (100%)
2.    Jainism (86%)
3.    Hinduism (76%)
4.    Unitarian Universalism (76%)
5.    Mahayana Buddhism (73%)

I expected neo-pagan, Hindu, UU and Buddhist to show up somewhere near to top - though I certainly didn't expect them all to be in the top five! Reading what Beliefnet has to say about Jainism makes me wonder what I said to have it as my second result; it's really nothing like what I believe at all. :l

I guess I have to learn more about Buddhist schools. It's embarrassing, but I don't know a single practising Buddhist personally. Still, I recently found out that one of my favourite artists, Nebelhexë, practises Nichiren Buddhism, and that piqued my curiosity. I don't believe in coincidences.

And because spoOk is in Canada:  Canadian Unitarian Council.  Quite possibly either the Wiki article or the UUA site gives the CUC link, but the UUA and CUC became effectively administratively separate in the late '90s, so it's not a given.

I do as well. I've actually done a bit of studying on it. I try to follow the tenant of minimalizing(sp?) harm. I have a deep respect for Buddhism.
