you will not eat? Not fast food like Mickey D's, but stuff that would go in your pantry to trot out if you need a meal in a hurry.

To answer my own question...

Pasta sauce in a jar. No way. No how. Not because you can't doctor it up but because have you ever looked at the sodium count?Huh? ::boggles::

Hamburger/Tuna Helper.  That stuff isn't fit to feed the stray dogs, IMO.

Mmmm. Hypertension.

I actually wonder why shop stuff always seems to have such a high sodium count. I hardly use salt when I cook (mainly because, I admit, I'm lazy) but it tastes OK.

I always have problems narrowing questions like this down to just one answer.

Canned peas, and I'll second Matrinka's Hamburger/Tuna Helper, because eeeeeewwwwwwww.  I also never buy muffin or cookie mix, because I just don't see the point.  I'll buy break-n-bake cookies if I need the convenience, but if I'm going to the trouble to make dough I might as well just throw it together myself.  (Cake mix I usually wind up making an exception for despite previous resolutions not to, because I never remember where the heck I put the recipe I like and the only ones I can locate quickly are sort of involved.)

Right at the moment I'm beginning to think I might never keep storebought jam on hand again either, unless there's some specific variety I need for a recipe that I don't happen to have made up.  I didn't realize until this year how easy jam was to make.  Now we've probably got enough in the freezer to last us all year, and I don't want to stop!  Grin  Ditto pickles.

canned veggies.  Any of them.

I grew up in a low-salt household, and those things to me are just salt licks.  actually EATING SALT tastes less salty to me!

If it doesn't come in frozen, I just don't get it.

It's the preservation process. Also, take a look at some of the foods that are low fat.  Most have a high sodium content. IIRC, my stepdad mentioned that the more processes a food goes through, the more sodium gets put in.

Ditto pickles.

So you've turned into the Pickle Lady, eh? LOL I remember when you were looking for recipes.

Your post reminds me. I've got some gorgeous strawberries in the freezer that I need to make into jam. Sounds like next week is recipe filing and jam making.

I'm quickly discovering that most vegetables can be pickled.  LOL  I've been having fun experimenting.  (And, interestingly enough, Natalie seems to love pickled beets.  So.)

canned veggies.  Any of them.

I should add that I don't generally keep any canned veggies on hand.  I make exceptions for (low-sodium) tomatoes when they're not in-season, and diced green chiles because I've never quite managed to get that particular taste any other way--but that's about it.  I didn't list them as a group, though, because peas are the only ones I really find disgusting; the rest, I just happen to like frozen or fresh better.

Tomatoes are a fruit, ergo, they're allowed canned.

so there. Cheesy

Canned peas and/or canned asparagus.  Bleck!
Agree with others on the sodium content....creative use of herbs could eliminate much of the "need" for sodium in recipes and convenience products.

Totally O/T.

Randall will tell you there are three things that must be in this house in large quantities for me to be content.

Canned tomatoes, onions and toilet paper. Get low on those, and I start having the shakes.

There. My secret is out. Smiley

Hamburger Helper.  We don't eat much convenience food, really, but I do keep things like spaghetti sauce in case DH needs to make a quick dinner, since his culinary skills are pretty limited.  But Hamburger Helper?  No way.  The thought of it alone makes me want to hurl.

Same here!  I can not STAND Hamburger Helper.  The only reason we have it is because the rest of the family likes it.  YUCK!  I'll cook it, but I wont eat it
