you will not eat? Not fast food like Mickey D's, but stuff that would go in your pantry to trot out if you need a meal in a hurry.

As someone that does live alone and on a budget, I admit that I do go for convienience foods A LOT.

I think that the canned vegetables are probably the only thing that I wouldn't eat (the exception being tomatos -- which as Shad pointed out are technically a fruit so they probably don't count.)

Randall will tell you there are three things that must be in this house in large quantities for me to be content.

Canned tomatoes, onions and toilet paper. Get low on those, and I start having the shakes.

I'm surprised chocolate didn't make that list....Cheesy

Nope, because I always have chocolate in some form here in the house, so I never run out. The tomatoes and onions are used a lot, and as the stocks dwindle, I see that and get very nervous. Smiley

Same here!  I can not STAND Hamburger Helper.  The only reason we have it is because the rest of the family likes it.  YUCK!  I'll cook it, but I wont eat it

The SO's mother gave a box of Campbell's tuna bake.  BLECH!!!!!  It goes to the food bank!

My mom's pantry is stocked with all those bake in a box foods. Or frozen dinners.  That's what her and my bro live on.  Tongue

Unlike every college kid out there, I managed to go all four years without having to once buy the delightfully cheap square package of Ramen. I don't do most canned veggies, save creamed corn and diced tomatoes.

Does Ramen even count as food?

I grew up in a low-salt household, and those things to me are just salt licks.  actually EATING SALT tastes less salty to me!

There are actually a lot of low-sodium or salt-free canned veggies available.  Personally, I don't like 'em because texturally they're nightmarish.  The exception is corn, which isn't too bad in a salsa or the like...

Hamburger/Tuna Helper.  That stuff isn't fit to feed the stray dogs, IMO.

OK, I'll bite- what on earth is Hamburger Helper?! I have never heard of it before...

I think I'll have to go with the majority vote about tinned veg. Apart from tomatoes, which I do use in soups, sauces etc. I absolutely LOATHE tinned veg of any kind. It is just evil!  Grin

I think you have it there but call it something different.  No, that's mac and cheese - what is it that you call mac and cheese again? Kraft dinner or something?

Anyway, hamburger helper is this horrible stuff in a box.  You brown ground beef, then add the noodles from the box and the god-awful seasoning packet from the box, some milk, some water, and simmer until the noodles are tender.  It may not sound that bad on paper, but it's HORRIBLE.  Kind of like cheeseburger macaroni, but gross-er.

Done from scratch, many of the recipes aren't bad, but where it loses it is that seasoning packet.  I don't know how they manage it, but they make everything taste simply vile.

Canned tuna.  It looks and smells like cat food, so the cats are the only ones that get it.

This is true.  I love Johnny Marzetti, but I can't stomach the boxed version.  And chicken casserole is fine, but chicken HELPER is something else altogether.

Tim grew up on Hamburger/Tuna Helper and so I have created my own homemade versions of his favorite flavors.  He likes mine, and no longer eats the boxed stuff anymore.  For him, it is "comfort food", because that's what he grew up eating.   I remember the first time I had one of them.  It was foul, and I never bought them again.  Once was more than enough for me.

And I still look at the ingredients and wonder how they manage to screw it up so badly.  I can use all the same stuff, minus the preservatives and gums, and have it taste fabulous, and the packaged stuff is horrid.  HOW???  How do they make it taste that bad?

Bleh.  Yep, canned tuna and meat in general make me physically sick, along with canned spagheti and meatballs.
